Union Level Consultation Workshop on Formation of WMO (WMG & WMA) at Dheukhali UP

Maintain the previous day workshop procedure. Workshop was held at the Union Parishad of Dheukhali which is situated within the sub unit area. After that mid-level WMO Specialist welcomed the respective chairman, members, stakeholders and elite person for day long Union level workshop and he requested to chairman to inaugural the workshop. In the beginning of the session the Holly Quran and Geeta were cited and after that Participants introduced himself with their name, address and occupation.

Inaugural session

Mr.Omar Faruk Beppari, 9 no. Dheukhali Union Parisha presided over the function. Mr.Chairman gave a thanks to PMO offcials, members and attended participants to join the workshop timely. He also advised to his members to contribute on the water management issues for this area and he wished to success of the project and then inaugurated the workshop by clapping of hands.

Welcome speech

Md. Kamalur Rahman Talukdar, Project Coordinator of SAIWRPMP-AF stated that there is a long history behind the establishment of this organization BWDB. Following the recurrent flooding occurred in three consecutive years from 1954 to 1956, food production reduced remarkably and the country was about to face a severe catastrophe. A huge amount of food was imported to cope up with the situation. Even then the price of food grains was so high that most of the ordinary consumers did not have capacity at all to buy those. In this context, a mission, led by J Krugg, former Secretary to the US government, was constituted to make recommendation for resolving the crisis. He requested to all the participants to coordinate & cooperation to our team for successful the project implementation activities. It is your project not to others. We will work to reduce water logged crisis to your areas by following participatory way as well as maintaining "Bottom Up approach". Our main objectives are to enhance agricultural & fisheries production in this areas, so that different types of international/ national improve technology will introduce. Project will provide training to related community peoples, as a result peoples will learn more and apply to their fields for better production. Stakeholders will be benefited and our country will be developed. We hope all the success of the project will go to community peoples.

Project description through Power Point Presentation (PPP)

Md. Abdur Razzak, Assistant Chief of SAIWRPMP-AF, BWDB, Faridpur presented the whole WMO (WMG & WMA) formation processes one by one through PPP. He presented the slides of the previous day workshop. His presentation made a lively discussion. No doubt, participants enjoyed the session as well as they gave more emphasis and attention. At the end of the session, some participants arisen the question about activities of the project and what kind of support expect from the participants. He shared information about it and informed them, every things will be shared with you one by one in time.

Open discussion session

After the presentation, an open discussion session was conducted to know problems on fisheries, agriculture, water logging and civil work etc. This session was mainly conducted by the respective experts.Enlisted the following problems on fisheries, agriculture and infrastructure, which will be included in SIP report to address it.

Issues on

a. Agriculture

Lack of agriculture cultivation training; no knowledge to use balanced fertilizer; not available good quality seeds; irrigation problem and less quality pesticides.

b. Fisheries

Shortage of good quality fish fry/fingerlings; fish affected & died by disease, shortage of good quality fish feed and bad water quality.

c. Civil work

Need excavation of KaziBypilkhal; Water drainage system of Lal-MolladangiKol is not good and need excavation of Vuvenoshorkhal.

Respective expert informed this year main khal will be excavated and others branch Khals will be excavated in the next year. FukurhatKhal- length is 14.5 Km.

Closing of Workshop

Mr. Chairman who gave special thanks to all attended participants basically UP members, elite persons & BWDB officials those who spent their valued time to this workshop. Now he understood the activities of the workshop objectives. He agreed to all kind of cooperation will be given to the project. Then he formed 13 members of “Foundation Committee” with 3 female members by participatory ways, and declared the name of the committee members simultaneously.

Finally closed the workshop with vote of thanks.
