Union Level Consultation Workshop on Formation of WMO (WMG & WMA) at Manikdah UP

In the beginning of the session, all participants registered their name and filled-up the registration book and format by individual participants. CFs and SFs helped the participants to do it. Workshop was held at the Union Parishad of Manikdah which is situated within the sub unit area. After that mid-level WMO Specialist welcomed the participants for day long workshop for Union Level workshop and he requested to chairman to inaugural the workshop. In the beginning of the session the Holly Quran and Geeta were cited, and after that attended participants introduced themselves with their name, address and occupation.

Inaugural session

Sk. Mohammad Liakot Ali, member of 9 No Word, Manikdah UP (Nominated by Chairman) and presided over the function and Mr. Matin,DCEO attended in inaugural session as a chief guest. Other respective experts and PMO officials were present in the dais and workshop. He requested the officials to implement the activities mainly re- excavation of the canals for irrigation and solve the water logged problems. Mr. Liakot Ali inaugurated the workshop with clap of hands.

Welcome speech

Mr. Matin delivered the welcome session and strongly emphasized to do the work with participatory way as well as "Bottom Up approach" for the sustainably of the project. After that he requested to the community peoples to take ownership of the project. He asked the peoples if some civil work such as Sluicegate, Embankment, re-excavation of canal, Regulator will be established in your areas then will you take O & M responsibilities yes or not ?. Everybody replied that yes. He again gave thanks to the attended participants.

Project description through Power Point Presentation (PPP)

MD. Hafizur Rahman, Deputy Chief Extension Officer (DCEO), SAIWRPMP-AF, BWDB Faridpur presented the whole WMO formation procedure one by one through PPP. He presented the previous day workshop slides. Participants heard attentively and enjoyed the session. At the end of the session, some participants shared their experience and he answered properly. Mr. Hafiz requested them to share their problems in next discussion session elaborately.

Open discussion session

After the presentation, an open discussion session was conducted to know problems on fisheries, agriculture, water logging and civil work etc. This session was mainly conducted through the respective experts. Enlisted the informed following problems on fisheries, agriculture and infrastructure which will be included in SIP report.

Discussed issues on

a. Agriculture

1. Drainage problem; 2. Low rice production rate; 3 Lack of quality seeds; 4.Availability of insecticides; 5. High irrigation cost; 6. Adulterate fertilizer; 7. No scope to oil testing and 8. Less use of balanced fertilizer.

b. Fisheries

Peoples are not skilled on fish farming; Water deteriorate in winter; Need to Fisheries training; Unavailability of quality fish fry/fingerlings; Luck of financial support for fish culture; Suddenly fishes are died; Noxious gas as well as fish disease and Fishes in unavailable in open water (Beel).

b. Civil work

Water logging in rice field, Re-excavation of Siltation of canal.

Also addressed 3 main khals should be excavated in this year like 1. Fukurhat Khal 2. Baliahati Khal and 3. Doshazar Khal.and other branch khals will be excavated in next year.

Closing of Workshop

Sk. Mohammad Liakot Ali, Member of 9 No Word, Brammankanda, Manikdah UP who thanked to all attended participants basically UP members, elite persons ,BWDB & ISPMC officials those who spent their valuable time in the workshop. He will extend his hands for all kind of cooperation to the project. Then he formed “Foundation Committee” which is consists of 13 members with 3 female members and declared the name of the committee members one by one. 

Lastly he closed the workshop with vote of thanks.
